My style is discovered Upscale Cottage Contemporary.

Upscale Cottage Painted Farmhouse Wood Box Garden Flowers
Sometimes an answer is right in front of your nose and this past week has proven to me again how that statement is true.  As an artist I am always trying to expand my work. It was drilled into me from the moment I sat down in a studio with an instructor watching and critiquing my work. By the end of the year you are supposed to have created a body of work that is new fresh and speaks to the world with your distinctive style. I had forgotten what was taught to me years ago and instead have chased trends. Maybe it was boredom but I know that would be a lie. I had fallen from creating from the heart center, my purpose or gift, to creating from the ego. The ego wants recognition, wants ‘likes’ and is driven by sales (which is a good thing) and always needs more.
The answer came to me after receiving photos I had ordered of some of my work. I wanted to use them on cards and send them to clients and friends.  I had put them away to work on at a later date. After rediscovering them I looked at the images and found all the work on each photo had been sold. The photos I had chosen was of work in the shop that was for sale and this was only a couple of months ago. What I found was the thread I had missed. It was my style and it was a style I admired. Why else would I have chosen the photos of this particular work? Throughout the years I have tried many designs for decor and furniture. I pulled out my books with the past work filling the pages and as simple as the nose on my face was the answer. What worked? The detailed painted garden and woodland flowers, birds on branches that wrap around the sides and top with my signature delicate ink line work. Amazing there it was my style.
My style is timeless and unique. It is contemporary and upscale. It is not trendy so it will never not be the ‘in thing’,  just a treasure to endure time. It is time for me to define it and embrace it because if I do not how can I expect anyone else to cherish my work. I have decided to define my style as Upscale Cottage Contemporary. I am taking the chic out of cottage and making the next step to contemporary. My work is the crisp clean lines found with contemporary work but stays with the high-end feel of a Hampton Cottage.
